Amazon Kindle to feature user-replaceable batteries in 2026
Amazon is introducing a new line of Kindle e-readers for 2026 designed with user-replaceable batteries and improved repairability. This shift addresses the common issue where declining battery life often forces consumers to replace entire devices even when the hardware remains functional.
The new models feature a physical construction that simplifies access to internal components. Unlike previous generations that required specialized tools or delicate procedures to avoid damaging the casing, the 2026 versions utilize a design that allows for easier opening. In plastic models, the back cover can be removed without extensive adhesive, and the battery is secured with standard Phillips screws.
Additionally, the devices will include a new information panel to help users monitor battery health. This move aligns with growing global discussions regarding the ‘right to repair’ and regulatory pressures, such as those in Europe, aimed at reducing electronic waste by extending the lifespan of consumer electronics.
