Amazon launches same-day grocery delivery in Germany

Amazon has entered the German same-day grocery market, offering fresh products including fruit, vegetables, meat, and dairy. As of October 30, the service is available in selected areas of Frankfurt, Cologne, and Munich.

This move increases competition for established German supermarket chains such as Rewe, Lidl, and Edeka. Amazon leverages its existing logistics network and large customer base, allowing users to combine grocery orders with other items like electronics or books in a single basket without needing a separate app.

Rewe currently maintains a significant presence in the German online grocery sector, claiming to reach approximately half of all German households with a selection of 15,000 products. The company operates 16 distribution centers and employs more than 3,600 people in its delivery service division.
