Amazon MGM Studios continues Mass Effect TV series development

Despite the closure of BioWare, the Mass Effect television series remains in development at Amazon MGM Studios. Sources indicate that all creative staff previously attached to the project remain onboard.

As of August 2025, Doug Jung was serving as showrunner, with Daniel Casey as the series writer. The production team includes executive producer Karim Zreik, former BioWare Mass Effect lead Mike Gamble, and former Marvel Studios executive Ari Arad.

The series, which has been in development since 2024, will not retread Commander Shepard’s origin story but will instead be set after the events of the original trilogy. While production was previously eyeing a late 2026 start, no official release date has been announced.
