Amazon MGM Studios to adapt Butcher & Blackbird for Prime Video

Amazon MGM Studios has acquired the rights to adapt Brynne Weaver’s bestselling novel ‘Butcher & Blackbird’ for a worldwide release on Prime Video. Emma Laird and Thomas Doherty have been cast as the leads in the dark romance adaptation.

Directed by Chris McKay, the film follows two rival serial killers who compete to target other killers, eventually developing a romantic bond through their shared violence. The project is based on the first book in Weaver’s ‘Ruinous Love’ trilogy, which has seen significant success on social media platforms like BookTok.

Laura Kosann wrote the screenplay, with revisions by Ari Berkowitz and Ava Tramer. Production is being handled by Alexander Black of Lyrical Media and Embrace, with Weaver and McKay serving as executive producers.
