Amazon MGM Studios to revive Stargate franchise with Jac Schaeffer

Amazon MGM Studios is attempting to relaunch the Stargate science fiction franchise with a new series led by Jac Schaeffer. Schaeffer, known for her work on Marvel Studios series such as ‘WandaVision’ and ‘Agatha All Along’, will direct the project alongside Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures.

This development follows a period of uncertainty for the franchise. A previous reboot attempt involving Martin Gero was reportedly canceled by Amazon in June 2026 because it was deemed unlikely to attract a broad audience beyond the existing fanbase.

While a writer’s room is expected to open soon, specific details regarding the plot, cast, or release date have not yet been disclosed. Given the early stage of development, the series is expected to take several years to reach viewers.
