Amazon MGM submits Project Hail Mary for 15 Oscar categories

Amazon MGM Studios has announced its Academy Award submission slate for the science fiction blockbuster ‘Project Hail Mary’. The studio is submitting the film in 15 categories, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Actor for Ryan Gosling.

A notable aspect of the campaign is the push for James Ortiz, the puppeteer and voice performer for the alien character Rocky, to receive a Best Supporting Actor nomination. This effort seeks to break a historical trend where the Academy has often overlooked non-traditional performances, such as those involving puppets or creature work. Alongside Ortiz, the studio is also submitting Lionel Boyce for Best Supporting Actor.

Other major categories include Best Supporting Actress for Sandra Hüller, as well as technical awards for Cinematography, Editing, Casting, Production Design, Costume Design, Makeup and Hairstyling, Score, Sound, and Visual Effects.
