Amazon must enter binding arbitration with B.C. warehouse workers after labour board order
British Columbia’s Labour Relations Board has ordered Amazon and the Unifor union to resolve their dispute through binding arbitration, directing the parties to reach a first collective agreement for workers at the Delta, B.C. fulfillment centre. The board will appoint an arbitrator if the parties do not agree on one within seven days. Amazon had previously rejected a mediator’s recommendation, insisting on direct negotiations and the right to strike or lockout, and is now appealing the ruling while seeking a pause until decertification votes are counted. Unifor welcomed the decision, accusing Amazon of bad‑faith bargaining and viewing unions as a threat to its management model. The board’s February finding that Amazon violated the provincial labour code by denying scheduled pay increases to the B.C. workers underpins the arbitration order.
