Amazon opens new ZAZ8 logistics center in Zaragoza

Amazon has launched ZAZ8, a new logistics center located in the Centrovía industrial park in La Muela, Zaragoza. The facility covers more than 30,000 square meters and has the capacity to store up to 8.9 million products. Functioning as a central hub, it will supply over 40 delivery points across Spain.

The center utilizes advanced automation, specifically image recognition technology and high-resolution cameras, to identify and sort packages. The investment in the site is approximately 100 million euros, with 25 million euros dedicated to transforming the existing building. While the facility currently employs over 100 people, Amazon expects the workforce to reach 600 within three years.

Alongside this expansion, Amazon has filed objections regarding new regulations proposed by Spain’s Ministry for Ecological Transition. The proposed rules would require large data centers to ensure 80% of their electricity consumption is backed by new renewable energy with hourly matching. Amazon is seeking guarantees for its data center investments to ensure that projects with existing permits are not subject to retroactive requirements.
