Amazon Pharmacy expands Medicare access to GLP‑1 weight‑loss drugs
Amazon Pharmacy announced that it will provide GLP‑1 weight‑loss medications—including Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy, Eli Lilly’s Zepbound KwikPen, and the Foundayo pill—to eligible Medicare Part D beneficiaries for a fixed price of $50 per month. The service is offered through the federal Medicare Bridge program, which runs through the end of 2027 and aims to broaden access to these high‑cost treatments.
The company will automate eligibility verification, prior‑authorization and billing, allowing patients to add their Medicare details to an Amazon Pharmacy account and have a clinician’s electronic prescription processed automatically. Most prior‑authorization decisions are made in under 24 hours, compared with the program’s 72‑hour limit. Amazon Pharmacy provides free home delivery and in‑store kiosk pickup, with same‑day delivery available in more than 3,100 U.S. cities and towns and an expansion target of 4,500 locations by the end of 2026. Tanvi Patel, vice president and general manager of Amazon Pharmacy, said the initiative removes paperwork and waiting‑room delays for patients.
