Amazon announces 30,000 entry-level jobs in the UK by 2030

Amazon has launched the ‘Amazon Youth Promise,’ an initiative aimed at creating 30,000 entry-level roles in the United Kingdom by 2030. The program targets young workers and individuals not in education, employment, or training (NEETs), offering starting salaries of approximately £31,000. According to John Boumphrey, Amazon’s UK country manager, the roles are designed for individuals who may lack traditional CVs or prior experience but possess a willingness to learn.

The announcement comes as the UK faces challenges with youth unemployment. Amazon joins other technology firms, including Microsoft, Cisco, and IBM, in supporting the government’s Youth Guarantee initiative. Pat McFadden, the UK work and pensions secretary, stated that the government is backing employers who share the ambition to create opportunities across the country.

This recruitment drive follows recent corporate restructuring at Amazon, which included cutting roughly 30,000 jobs over the past year to focus on artificial intelligence. Separately, the company has announced plans to hire 300,000 seasonal workers globally for the upcoming holiday period.
