Amazon Prime Air to expand drone delivery to nearly 500 U.S. cities by 2026
Amazon is significantly expanding its Prime Air drone delivery service, aiming to reach nearly 500 cities and towns across the United States by the end of 2026. This represents a sixfold increase from its current footprint, which presently covers 11 metropolitan areas across seven states, including Arizona, Florida, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Nebraska, and Texas.
The service is designed to provide ultrafast delivery for items such as groceries, electronics, cosmetics, and medications, with some deliveries arriving in as little as 30 minutes. The drones are capable of carrying loads up to 2.3kg, covering more than 60% of the company's most frequently ordered items.
Amazon has already completed hundreds of thousands of drone deliveries this year, with thousands occurring daily. The company plans to launch operations soon in several new locations, including Georgia, Ohio, Illinois, Idaho, and New York, with specific upcoming sites in Chicago, Syracuse, and Cleveland.
