Amazon Prime faces legal action over invalid 2022 price hikes

Amazon faces legal scrutiny regarding its 2022 Prime membership price increases. Two courts have ruled that the price hikes were invalid and violated terms and conditions because the company failed to obtain active consent from existing customers.

During the 2022 increase, annual fees for standard members rose from 69 Euro to 89.90 Euro, while monthly fees increased from 7.99 Euro to 8.99 Euro. Student memberships also saw increases from 34 Euro to 44.90 Euro annually.

The Verbraucherzentrale NRW recently issued an Instagram post suggesting that affected customers could join a class action lawsuit to reclaim their money. This announcement has caused confusion among users on social media, with some questioning if the legal matter was already resolved or if this represents a new development.
