Mike Flanagan’s Carrie series to debut on Prime Video

Prime Video will release a new eight-episode television series adaptation of Stephen King’s debut novel, ‘Carrie’, on October 7. Directed by Mike Flanagan, the production aims to reimagine the classic horror story rather than providing a direct remake of previous film versions.

The series updates the setting to the contemporary era, incorporating themes of social media and viral bullying. The plot follows Carrie White, played by Summer H. Howell, an isolated teenager who discovers telekinetic powers while navigating the pressures of public school and a complex relationship with her overprotective mother, Margaret, played by Samantha Sloyan.

Flanagan serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside King, directing several episodes including the series premiere and finale. The cast also features Matthew Lillard, Siena Agudong, and Alison Thornton. The series is scheduled to debut simultaneously in over 240 countries.
