Amazon Prime Video releases Carrie horror series reboot

Amazon Prime Video has released a new eight-episode reimagining of Stephen King’s horror novel ‘Carrie’, directed by Mike Flanagan. The series, starring Summer H. Howell, follows teenager Carrie White as she navigates high school, viral bullying, and the discovery of telekinetic powers following her father's death.

This adaptation incorporates a Gen Z perspective, emphasizing the role of social media in the character's humiliation. While the series follows the core premise of the original story, it features an alternative ending involving astral projection that leaves the door open for a potential second season. Showrunner Mike Flanagan stated that while the focus was on completing the current story arc, the plot was intentionally designed with ingredients to allow for further expansion.

Viewers have expressed significant interest and debate regarding the characterization of Chris Hargensen, Carrie’s bully, noting a lack of clear motivation for her actions compared to previous adaptations.
