Amazon Prime Video to Double Funding for French Audio‑Visual Production Amid Media Chronology Talks

Amazon’s streaming service Prime Video said it will continue negotiations with France’s cinema and audiovisual sectors to reach an agreement on the country’s media‑chronology rules, which set the timing for film releases on different platforms. Under the discussions, Prime Video plans to at least double its financial contribution to French audiovisual and cinematic production for the 2026‑2028 period, committing a minimum of €90 million and up to €110 million if a work is made available within 12 months of its theatrical debut.

The French audiovisual regulator ARCOM adopted an amendment to Prime Video’s 2026‑2028 convention in May and, at Amazon’s request, extended it in early July to keep the dialogue open. Prime Video previously challenged the chronology regime in French courts; the Conseil d’État rejected its request for a constitutional review last year. A company spokesperson told AFP that the parties hope to finalise a solution in the coming months, reinforcing Amazon’s long‑term commitment to French content creation.
