Amazon rebrands Project Kuiper satellite network to Amazon Leo
Amazon has officially rebranded its satellite internet initiative, formerly known as Project Kuiper, to Amazon Leo as of November 2025. The company aims to deploy a constellation of over 3,000 low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites to provide high-speed, low-latency broadband to remote and rural areas where terrestrial infrastructure is difficult or expensive to install.
In its first two operational missions of 2025, Amazon successfully placed 54 production satellites into orbit. The company is currently developing infrastructure and establishing agreements to expand its presence in markets across Latin America and Africa. This initiative follows a 2020 authorization from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to deploy a constellation of up,236 satellites.
