Amazon religious books likely 63% AI-written, study finds

A study by AI detection firm Originality.ai has found that approximately 63% of religious books recently published on Amazon are likely written by artificial intelligence. The analysis examined 2,034 titles across 14 different religious and belief categories, flagging 1,272 of them as likely AI-generated.

According to the report, the highest rates of AI involvement were found in the witchcraft category at 78%, followed by Hinduism at 76% and Taoism at 74%. Other categories, including Mormonism, atheism, and Satanism, showed lower rates of 42%, 40%, and 22%, respectively.

Researcher Michael Fraiman noted that many witchcraft-related books focus on topics like herbal remedies and mental health, which can address consumer concerns without being subject to scientific standards. The study also flagged 53% of fact-checkable claims within the witchcraft category as potentially false. Researchers emphasized that the findings indicate likelihood rather than absolute proof, as the model classifies text scoring 50 or higher as ‘Likely AI.’
