Amazon River levels stabilize or fluctuate amid regional drought

Water levels in the Amazon basin are showing varied patterns as the region faces a prolonged dry season. In Manaus, the Rio Negro has remained stable at 16.50 meters for four consecutive days, marking the first interruption of its receding trend this year. This level is approximately 18 centimeters higher than the most severe projections provided by the Geological Service of Brazil.

In Santarém, Pará, the Rio Tapajós has experienced fluctuations, recently dropping to 1.30 meters. This measurement places the river 80 centimeters below the official alert level of 2.10 meters. Local authorities note that Santarém has not seen rainfall since July 23, contributing to a period of drought and increased concern regarding wildfires in the western Pará region.
