Amazon shares climb on strong earnings and AI growth prospects

Amazon's stock rose about 0.4 % in NASDAQ trading, reaching roughly $239.30 and outperforming many other NASDAQ‑100 components. The gains followed the release of first‑quarter results showing revenue of $181.5 billion, up more than 16 % year‑over‑year, and earnings per share of $2.78, a significant increase from the prior year's $1.59.

Analysts highlighted the continued strength of Amazon Web Services, noting rising demand for cloud infrastructure and generative artificial‑intelligence applications as key growth drivers. The company's online retail business also remained stable, supporting the overall positive outlook that helped lift the share price away from its 52‑week low of about $196.

Investors cited the combination of expanding AI initiatives, robust cloud performance, and solid sales growth as reasons for confidence in Amazon’s longer‑term market position.
