Amazon and Constellation Energy sign 20-year nuclear power deal
Amazon has entered into a 20-year power purchase agreement with Constellation Energy to secure nuclear power for its operations. The deal focuses on the Calvert Cliffs nuclear power plant in Maryland, where Constellation plans to add 190 MW of capacity between 2030 and 2032. This agreement is expected to facilitate over $3 billion in infrastructure investment in Maryland and will provide Amazon with 690 MW of power.
Separately, Vistra Corp. is reportedly in line for a $4 billion federal loan package from the U.S. government. This funding is intended to modernize and expand three nuclear power facilities located in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Both Constellation and Vistra are seeing increased interest as the demand for reliable, 24/7 carbon-free energy grows, driven largely by the expansion of artificial intelligence data centers.
