Amazon sued after delivery driver strikes elderly man in California

A civil lawsuit has been filed against Amazon following a March 30 incident at a gas station in Elk Grove, California, where a delivery driver struck a 71-year-old man. Surveillance video released by authorities shows 30-year-old Terrence Wheeler, an Amazon delivery driver, confronting the victim inside an ampm convenience store after a dispute over a parking space. The video depicts Wheeler striking the man on the side of the head, causing him to fall to the ground.

The victim, an agricultural and animal production auditor, is being treated for a concussion and neck pain. Wheeler was arrested and faces charges including felony elder abuse, felony criminal threats, and misdemeanor battery. His next court appearance is scheduled for September 24.

Attorneys for the victim are seeking $10 million in damages from both Wheeler and Amazon. Amazon stated that Wheeler was not a direct employee but was working for an independent contractor. The company noted that following an investigation into the incident, the driver was no longer eligible to deliver packages for the company.
