Amazon targets Gustavo Villani to bolster Prime Video sports coverage

Amazon is reportedly seeking to strengthen its Prime Video sports broadcasting team in Brazil by recruiting high-profile talent. The streaming giant has identified Gustavo Villani, a prominent narrator for Grupo Globo, as a primary target. Additionally, the company has reportedly approached Paulo Andrade, a well-known voice from ESPN, to bolster its coverage.

This recruitment drive follows the early termination of Galvão Bueno’s contract with Amazon. While his agreement was originally set to run until December 2027, the partnership ended in May following social media criticism regarding broadcasts of the Campeonato Brasileiro and Copa do Brasil, alongside structural changes in Amazon’s Latin American sports management. The parties reached an amicable settlement, with Amazon paying R$ 5 million to resolve the contract, significantly lower than the initial R$ 17 million penalty clause.
