Amazon in talks to acquire AI startup Decart for $7 billion

Amazon is reportedly in advanced negotiations to acquire Decart, an Israeli-founded artificial intelligence startup, in a deal potentially valued at approximately $7 billion. The acquisition, if finalized, would represent a significant increase from Decart’s valuation of nearly $4 billion in May 2026.

Decart, founded in 2023 by engineers Dean Leitersdorf, Orian Leitersdorf, and Moshe Shalev, specializes in software that optimizes AI workloads across diverse hardware, including Nvidia GPUs, Google TPUs, and Amazon’s Trainium chips. This capability, provided through its Decart Optimization Stack (DOS), aims to reduce the time required to optimize neural networks from months to weeks, facilitating easier transitions between different chip architectures.

In addition to infrastructure software, Decart has developed generative AI models such as Lucy, which performs real-time video editing, and Oasis, which generates simulated 3D environments for training robotics and autonomous driving systems.

Reports indicate that Anthropic previously explored acquiring Decart for roughly $6 billion in August but decided against the deal in September following due diligence. Amazon, which is a major investor in Anthropic, could use Decart’s technology to strengthen its own AWS ecosystem and reduce reliance on Nvidia hardware by making its custom Trainium chips more accessible to developers.
