Amazon to invest $3 billion in India quick-commerce expansion
Amazon plans to invest up to $3 billion in its Indian quick-commerce business by 2030 to compete with established local rivals. The investment strategy involves committing $1 billion by the end of 2027, followed by an additional $2 billion through 2030.
The capital will be used to expand the company’s network of small neighborhood warehouses, often called dark stores, to facilitate faster deliveries of daily essentials. Amazon aims to increase its store count from approximately 750 to 1,300 by April next year. The company also intends to enhance inventory management through AI-driven demand prediction tools.
Amazon’s quick-commerce division has recently surpassed $1 billion in annualized gross sales, making it the fastest-growing segment in the company’s Indian history. Despite this growth, Amazon currently holds a 6.2% market share, trailing behind domestic competitors Blinkit, Swiggy, and Zepto, which collectively control roughly 77% of the market.
