Amazon to invest $3 billion in India quick commerce expansion

Amazon is accelerating its entry into India's quick commerce market with a planned investment of approximately $3 billion over the next few years. The company aims to compete with established local players such as Blinkit, Swiggy, and Zepto.

According to reports, Amazon intends to invest $1 billion next year and an additional $2 billion by 2030 into its rapid delivery service, Amazon Now. As part of its immediate strategy, the company is allocating $300 million this year to triple its number of local fulfillment centers, known as “dark stores,” to over 1,000 facilities. This expansion is intended to grow the service's reach from 15 cities to approximately 300 cities across India.

The quick commerce sector in India, which currently includes items ranging from food to consumer goods delivered within 20 minutes, is seeing significant shifts in consumer behavior among the middle class. While the market is currently valued at around $8 billion, it is projected to grow to $50 billion by 2030.
