Amazon tops US price‑war study while Walmart leads grocery discounts
A Profitero analysis of more than 10,000 products in the United States, released for 2025, found that Amazon offers the lowest prices overall, averaging a 14 % discount versus rivals. The advantage is strongest in electronics, tools and appliances, where Amazon’s prices are 7‑9 % lower than Walmart and Target.
Walmart remains the cheapest retailer for groceries, but a February 2026 Consumer Reports report notes that Costco now beats Walmart in that category, posting prices 21.4 % below Walmart’s. Target’s prices are generally higher—about 13 % above Amazon—but its Circle Card loyalty program provides a flat 5 % discount that narrows the gap for apparel and home‑goods purchases.
