Amazon unveils redesigned Kindle lineup with flush displays
Amazon has announced a major redesign of its Kindle e-reader lineup, introducing new models for the 2026 cycle. The updated range includes the standard Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite, and the new Kindle Colorsoft, which features a color E-ink display.
A central feature of the redesign is a new “reverse stack” display architecture that allows for a flush, edge-to-edge front design, eliminating the traditional raised bezel. This change makes the devices thinner and lighter. The entry-level Kindle is now 6.8mm thick and weighs 140g, while the Paperwhite and Colorsoft models also benefit from reduced dimensions.
Key technical improvements include a 30% increase in page-turn speed and enhanced battery life, with the Paperwhite offering up to 12 weeks of use. For the first time, Amazon is offering aluminum back options for certain models, such as the 32GB Kindle and the Paperwhite Signature Edition. To comply with European Union regulations, the devices also feature user-replaceable batteries.
New accessories have been introduced to complement the hardware, including the “Kindle Click,” a Bluetooth remote for turning pages and adjusting brightness, and a magnetic cover with physical page-turn buttons for select Signature Edition models.
