Amazon warns U.S. data center moratoriums threaten AI supremacy
Amazon Web Services (AWS) CEO Matt Garman has issued a warning regarding growing public opposition and local moratoriums on data center construction across the United States. In a detailed blog post, Garman argued that halting these developments could have catastrophic, multi-generational consequences for the nation's economic and security interests.
Garman emphasized that the global race for AI supremacy is a defining geopolitical struggle, noting that the nations leading in AI will shape the future international order. He highlighted that over 100 local municipalities in the U.S. are currently considering moratoriums on data center construction.
Furthermore, the AWS chief alleged that there are frequent reports of foreign actors intentionally spreading disinformation regarding data centers in the U.S. to slow down development pace, describing the infrastructure as having a level of strategic importance comparable to the national transportation network established after World War II.
