Amazon Web Services and PPC Group to develop data center in Western Macedonia

PPC Group (ΔΕΗ) has entered into an agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to develop a major data center in Agios Dimitrios, Kozani, marking a significant shift for the Western Macedonia region. The first phase of the project involves a power supply of 300 MW, with the potential to expand up to 1 GW. Under the 15-year lease agreement, PPC will provide land, buildings, and energy infrastructure, while AWS will install and operate the IT equipment.

This initiative is part of a broader investment program in Western Macedonia estimated to exceed 10 billion euros. This includes approximately 5.75 billion euros dedicated to energy and related infrastructure, such as renewable energy sources, energy storage, new production units, and district heating. The project aims to transition the region from a lignite-based economy to a modern hub for energy, digital infrastructure, and artificial intelligence, potentially creating thousands of jobs.
