Amazon Web Services launches Bedrock Web Search for OpenAI GPT models

Amazon Web Services announced that its Amazon Bedrock service now offers a built‑in Web Search tool in general availability. The feature lets supported OpenAI GPT models (including GPT‑5.4, GPT‑5.5 and GPT‑5.6) retrieve up‑to‑date information from the web directly within the AWS environment, eliminating the need for third‑party search providers, separate API keys, or additional security reviews. Responses are grounded with citations drawn from Amazon’s own web index—containing tens of billions of documents—and a knowledge graph that supplies structured facts.

Web Search is accessible through a single parameter in the existing Bedrock API call, operates server‑side in the US East (N. Virginia), US East (Ohio) and US West (Oregon) regions, and returns concise semantic snippets that fit the model’s context window while maintaining data residency and zero data egress.
