Nvidia invests $3.5 billion in MediaTek to expand AI partnership

Nvidia has announced a $3.5 billion investment in Taiwan-based MediaTek through convertible bonds. This strategic move aims to deepen their collaboration across AI infrastructure, local computing, and automotive technology.

As part of the expanded partnership, MediaTek will adopt Nvidia's NVLink Fusion technology. This platform allows third-party developers to create custom AI accelerators (XPUs) that can integrate seamlessly into Nvidia's rack-scale AI systems, helping to maintain Nvidia's ecosystem dominance even as major cloud providers like Amazon and Google develop their own silicon.

The collaboration also targets the consumer market, with plans to jointly develop AI-focused PC chips, including the RTX Spark and DGX Spark series. In the automotive sector, the companies will work on platforms for software-defined vehicles.

This investment follows a period of massive growth for Nvidia, which recently reported $96.2 billion in revenue for the second quarter of fiscal year 2027, with data center revenue alone reaching $89 billion, a 117% year-over-year increase.
