Amazonas candidates Arthur Virgílio Neto and Simão Peixoto launch campaigns

Former Manaus mayor Arthur Virgílio Neto (MDB) announced his candidacy for the federal deputy seat, saying he returns to politics to defend the interests of Amazonas and to protect the Manaus Free Trade Zone, which he argues is vital for jobs, industrial growth and forest conservation. He also called for greater investment in bio‑economy, research and technology to turn the Amazon’s natural wealth into sustainable development.

Ex‑mayor of Borba Simão Peixoto (MDB) arrived in his hometown to officially launch his bid for a seat in the Amazonas State Assembly. He highlighted his record of infrastructure projects, school construction, health‑system expansion and public‑works initiatives that, he says, eliminated surgical waiting lists in the municipality. Peixoto positioned himself as a strong contender for the state legislature, urging voters to join his campaign.

Both candidates emphasized regional development and the need for continued public investment as they begin their respective election campaigns in the state of Amazonas.
