Amazonas Electoral Court appoints new judge and prepares 2026 election logistics amid drought

Lawyer Laura Maria Santiago Lucas was appointed by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva as a titular judge of the Regional Electoral Court of Amazonas (TRE‑AM) for a two‑year term, replacing Fabrício Frota Marques. The decree was published in the official gazette on 7 April. In her new role she will vote on the court’s decisions and may act as a rapporteur in cases concerning candidate registration, campaign advertising, and electoral accounts.

On the same day, TRE‑AM held its first Integrated Management Office meeting to align the planning of the 2026 general elections. Representatives from security forces, the State Civil Defense, the Military Command of the Amazon, and other agencies discussed logistics for remote communities and a contingency plan to mitigate the expected El Niño‑driven drought, including pre‑positioning of electronic voting equipment and coordination with the Federal Police and the State Police.
