Amazonas Electoral Court conducts voting‑machine simulation and enforces new rules for 2026 elections

The Regional Electoral Court of Amazonas (TRE‑AM) is carrying out a nationwide hardware test from 6‑10 July, using 275 electronic voting machines – 55 per day – covering models from 2013, 2015, 2020 and 2022. The simulated ballot reproduces all stages of a real election, including votes for federal deputies, state deputies, two Senate seats, governor and president, to validate the machines and the integration of the electronic voting system ahead of Brazil’s 2026 elections.

At the same time, TRE‑AM announced that new electoral restrictions take effect on 4 July, three months before the vote. The rules prohibit public‑service appointments, hires, dismissals without cause, transfers and resignations of staff, as well as voluntary transfers of funds between federal, state and municipal entities. Institutional publicity of public works is limited to urgent situations, and officials may not use official media to promote their candidacies. Violations can lead to fines, cancellation of candidacy registration or removal of elected office.

Both measures aim to ensure fairness, transparency and technical reliability for the upcoming elections in the state of Amazonas.
