Amazonas Gov. Roberto Cidade expands women's surgeries and community health services
On 17 June, Governor Roberto Cidade attended the “Amazonas por Elas” action at Hospital Delphina Rinaldi Abdel Aziz in Manaus, supervising about 130 surgeries performed for women that day. The procedures included cataract and pterygium operations, breast and thyroid biopsies, as well as gynecological, dermatological, proctological, radiological and urological interventions. Cidade said, “Cuidar das pessoas, transformar vidas é a nossa missão… nossa previsão é de que este ano possamos quebrar todos os recordes de cirurgias.” The initiative is part of the +Saúde da Mulher program, which targets more than 8 000 gynecological surgeries by the end of the year and broader preventive and diagnostic services for women in Amazonas.
The following day, First‑Lady Thaisa Cidade joined the “Governo Presente” outreach in the Compensa neighbourhood of western Manaus. The mobile service centre offered free documentation assistance, health exams via the Carreta da Saúde, and a “Castramóvel” that performed free spay/neuter surgeries for pets. Thaisa Cidade noted, “O governo do Estado do Amazonas… está mais presente dentro da comunidade…”. Residents such as Rosilda Macedo praised the pet‑castration service for preventing disease and overpopulation. The program also provided disability identification cards, legal aid, debt renegotiation and other social services, aiming to bring multiple state secretariats directly to the population.
