Amazonas Governor Roberto Cidade Announces Re‑election Bid Backed by Wilson Lima
During a July 7 event in Manaus, Wilson Lima, president of the Progressive Union Federation in Amazonas and Senate candidate, endorsed the re‑election of Governor Roberto Cidade. Lima highlighted the partnership that, according to him, delivered major advances in public security, health, the economy, social assistance and job creation across the state. He warned against a return to “old politics” and urged voters to keep the current administration in power.
Separately, Senator Omar Aziz presented his Strategic Development Plan for Amazonas, focusing on the modernization and valuation of security forces. The plan notes that only about 42% of the legally required security personnel are currently active, and it calls for career reforms, salary adjustments, health programs for officers and better use of roughly R$ 352 million in unused state security funds. Aziz argues that strengthening and properly resourcing the police is essential for protecting the population in the state’s interior and river communities.
