Amazonas pre‑candidates pledge to end SISREG health‑care queues

David Almeida, former mayor of Manaus and pre‑candidate for the Amazonas governorship, announced he will "zero" the waiting list of the state’s health‑regulation system (SISREG). He cited the primary‑care expansion achieved during his municipal tenure – coverage rising from 47 % to 94 % and the construction or renovation of 128 health units – as a model for statewide management.

Senator Omar Aziz, also running for governor, called for building new hospitals, policlinics and three maternity centres to relieve pressure on the SISREG system. He warned that population growth in Manaus and the interior has outpaced the capacity of existing maternal‑infant services, and he urged broader expansion of specialist staff and a state‑wide drug‑rehabilitation program.

Other regional politicians launched their own pre‑campaigns during the same period, including Governor Roberto Cidade, deputy‑candidate Marcelo Palhano, and Mato Grosso candidate Bira Ferreira, underscoring health‑care reform as a central theme of the 2026 Amazonas election race.
