Brazil implements regional health and nutrition initiatives

The Amazonas State Health Secretariat (SES-AM) has begun distributing kits containing 106 types of medicines and health products to 23 municipalities. This measure aims to prevent shortages caused by the drought and low river levels, which complicate transportation to remote communities. The kits include antibiotics, analgesics, and treatments for hypertension and diabetes.

In a separate health initiative, the Ministry of Health has resumed the NutriSUS strategy, distributing micronutrient powder supplements to 450 municipalities in the North Region and 21 Indigenous Health Districts. The program targets over 277,000 children to prevent anemia and nutritional deficiencies.

In Manaus, the Public Defender's Office reported that the retention of Samu ambulances by hospitals has caused over 3,400 hours of inactivity, preventing approximately 2,287 emergency calls from being answered. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health invested R$ 40 million to deliver 137 vehicles, including Samu ambulances and mobile dental units, to 49 municipalities in Minas Gerais to strengthen the Unified Health System (SUS).
