Amazonas indigenous students passed without attending classes
The Federal Public Ministry (MPF) has identified 11 indigenous lands and reserves in Amazonas where high school students are being passed through the educational system without attending regular classes. The investigation revealed that students in eight municipalities are receiving passing grades despite a critical lack of teachers, schools, meals, transportation, and basic infrastructure.
In remote areas such as the Tenharim do Igarapé Preto Indigenous Land and Vale do Javari, the MPF suspects criminal activity, including the potential use of falsified documents to secure these irregular approvals. The MPF is seeking an agreement with the State Secretariat of Education to implement emergency measures, such as the simplified hiring of indigenous teachers and improved school transport. If an agreement is not reached by the established deadline, the Prosecutor's Office intends to file civil lawsuits to protect the students' right to education.
