Amazonas Public Defender sues for housing aid after residential fire

The Amazonas Public Defender's Office (DPE-AM) has filed a lawsuit to secure emergency housing assistance and safety evaluations for families affected by a fire at the Residencial Viver Melhor III in the Monte das Oliveiras neighborhood.

The fire, which occurred on August 9, damaged the structure of block 5 and common areas, leaving 16 families in a state of insecurity regarding their ability to return to their homes. The legal action seeks to compel the State, Municipality, and the Municipal Institute of Urban Planning (Implurb) to provide a technical report on the building's structural, electrical, and fire prevention safety within 72 hours.

Additionally, the lawsuit requests that the State and Municipality ensure emergency housing aid for the affected families. Public defender Carlos Almeida noted that while five families have received some support, others remain without effective assistance nearly a month after the incident. The legal claim is valued at R$ 3,270,400.00.
