Amazonas Public Defender's Office conducts legal services in Brazil

The Amazonas Public Defender's Office (DPAM) is conducting legal assistance activities in the state, including a mobile service initiative in Tabatinga and a successful adoption case in Tonantins.

In Tabatinga, the ‘Defensoria Itinerante’ project is providing legal guidance and assistance from Monday to Wednesday. The initiative focuses on family law and public records, offering services such as child support, divorce, custody, and the rectification or restoration of birth certificates. The program aims to bring justice closer to interior populations who live far from main administrative centers.

In Tonantins, the DPAM successfully secured the judicial recognition of family ties for a 12-year-old girl. The legal action formalized the relationship between the adolescent and the couple who had cared for her since she was three months old. Following a psychosocial study and the consent of the biological mother, a judge granted the adoption and approved the adolescent's request to change her first name.
