Amazonas state programs pour billions of reais into social aid and power expansion

The Amazonas state government’s Auxílio Estadual cash‑transfer program injected R$270 million into the regional economy in the first half of 2026, reaching 300,000 vulnerable families with a monthly payment of R$150. Since its launch in 2021, the scheme has disbursed more than R$2.5 billion, with an annual economic impact of R$540 million, according to Governor Roberto Cidade and the state social assistance secretariat.

In May 2026, Amazonas Energia S.A. received R$212 million in new public funds, raising the total federal resources allocated to the utility to R$874 million. The money is intended for expanding electricity access in remote areas under the Conta de Desenvolvimento Energético programme. Despite the sizable investment, audits reveal persistent operational failures, with only 291 households served in 2019 compared with 19,610 in the early 2010s, and long delays in project validation and field inspections.
