Amazonas Station begins commercial operations on Belo Horizonte Metro Line 2

The Amazonas Station on Line 2 of the Belo Horizonte Metropolitan Region (RMBH) Metro has commenced commercial operations. Starting Thursday, October 1, the station will operate Monday through Friday from 5:15 AM to 11:00 PM. While the station was inaugurated by the Government of Minas Gerais in July, it previously operated with free access; users must now pay the standard metro fare.

The station will remain closed on weekends and holidays to allow for ongoing infrastructure work. Full-week commercial operations are expected to begin on November 1. Officials anticipate approximately 1,200 passengers per weekday.

Construction continues on the remainder of Line 2, which will span 10.5 kilometers with seven stations. Work is currently underway on the Nova Cintra, Nova Gameleira, and Vista Alegre stations, which are projected to open in 2028. The complete line, including the Ferrugem and Barreiro stations, is also expected to be fully operational by 2028, with an estimated daily ridership of 40,000 passengers.
