Amazonian organizations convene to address climate crisis and forest management

Community leaders, environmental agencies, and non-profit organizations have held strategic meetings in the Marajó region of Brazil to address the escalating climate crisis. An Integrated Fire Management workshop, organized by the AVINA Foundation and the Marajó Observatory, brought together representatives from several municipalities, including Soure, Salvaterra, Ponta de Pedras, and Cachoeira do Arari. The initiative aimed to strengthen institutional dialogue and local capacity for monitoring climate data and preventing forest fires.

In a separate effort, the Anglican Church of the Amazon and the Pan-Amazonian Ecclesial Network (REPAM-Brasil) met to evaluate the Cine Debate project. This initiative focuses on social mobilization and the defense of traditional communities and the Amazon rainforest. The meeting emphasized the importance of inter-religious alliances and community participation in protecting territories and responding to environmental challenges.
