Amazon's God of War series to recast lead roles for Season 2

Production of Amazon’s live‑action God of War series was halted after lead actor Ryan Hurst suffered a severe biceps tear, forcing a recast of Kratos and pushing filming in Vancouver back to October. Four episodes already shot will be reshot with the new Kratos.

Casting calls reported by MP1st show the studio also plans to replace the younger actors for Atreus and Thrud in the second season. The calls, using the codenames “Joshua” (Atreus) and “Ruth” (Thrud), seek performers aged 14‑17 – a jump from the 9‑12 age range used for season 1’s cast of Callum Vinson and Island Austin. The descriptions read, for example, “Teen Joshua must be comfortable with physical combat, especially archery,” and “Teen Ruth is wise beyond her years, confident, intelligent and sarcastic.” These changes align with a planned time‑skip that will move the story from the 2018 game to the events of God of War Ragnarök, meaning season 2 will cover the later game’s narrative.

No official premiere date has been announced; the production delays could push the series’ debut to 2028. The series remains a Prime Video original and will stream globally once released.
