Colombia government reverses gasoline price hike for October
The Colombian government has reversed a planned increase in gasoline prices for October 2026. Following instructions from President Abelardo De La Espriella, the Ministries of Finance and Mines and Energy decided to freeze the price of regular gasoline, preventing an expected rise of approximately 46 pesos per gallon.
The reversal aims to protect consumers from price fluctuations driven by international oil markets. While the cost will not be passed on to users, the government will provide a subsidy of approximately 8,300 million pesos to cover the difference. This funding ensures that the economic recognition for ethanol producers, which was the driver of the initial increase, remains intact.
Additionally, the price of ACPM (diesel) will also remain stable during October. This decision follows previous measures taken after the earthquake on August 10, 2026, which impacted sugarcane producers in the Valle del Cauca region.
