Ambala building collapse kills at least six in Haryana
A three-storey building under construction collapsed in Dhulkot village near Ambala, Haryana, on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred around 3:00 PM while workers were casting a concrete slab for the roof on the first floor.
Reports indicate that the collapse caused the failure of multiple levels, with the roof slab falling and subsequently bringing down the second and first-floor structures. At the time of the accident, approximately 17 workers were reportedly engaged in casting the lintel.
Casualty figures have fluctuated during the ongoing rescue efforts. While initial reports confirmed four deaths, subsequent updates from local authorities and news agencies indicated the death toll rose to six. At least 13 people have been rescued from the debris, and over 10 others sustained injuries. Some officials initially feared that as many as 15 to 20 people could be trapped under the rubble.
A large-scale rescue operation is underway involving the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the fire brigade, and local police. Ambala Superintendent of Police Ajit Singh Shekhawat stated that legal action will be taken if negligence is discovered. The contractor and the building owner reportedly fled the scene following the incident.
