Ambala police injured in clash with Sikh protesters

At least six police officers were injured during a clash with approximately 1,500 to 1,600 Sikh protesters in Ambala, Haryana. The demonstrators blocked National Highway 44 near Gurdwara Panjokhra Sahib to demand the arrest of Gursimran Singh Mand, the president of the International Anti-Khalistani Terrorist Front.

The unrest follows an August 7 incident at Panjokhra Sahib where Mand was allegedly attacked and his vehicle damaged. While police have registered an FIR against Mand and his son for attempted murder, the community's recent protests were triggered by the arrest of Sikh youths in connection with that assault.

As the highway blockade caused severe traffic disruptions, the situation escalated into stone-pelting. Police responded with a lathi-charge and tear gas to disperse the crowd. Among the injured officers is a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) who sustained a serious injury to his thumb. Several other personnel suffered head and other injuries, with some remaining hospitalized.
