Ambassador Vranješ warns of election risks at Bosnia and Herzegovina embassy in Belgrade
Aleksandar Vranješ, the Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to Serbia, has raised concerns regarding the integrity of upcoming election preparations at the embassy in Belgrade. Vranješ claims that Foreign Minister Elmedin Konaković has called two embassy staff members for “consultations,” a move the Ambassador describes as unprecedented in diplomatic practice.
The two officials in question serve as the president and deputy member of the local election board, roles they were appointed to following a proposal from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Central Election Commission (CIK). Because these staff members are currently being treated as being on official business rather than being formally withdrawn, Vranješ expressed uncertainty about whether they will be available to conduct the elections this coming Sunday.
Vranješ has notified the CIK of the situation, requesting that the commission verify whether the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will return the officials to Belgrade in time to fulfill their duties for the general elections.
