Amberg 24‑Hour Swim Raises €5,000 for Local Hospice

On 30 July 2026, the 18th Amberg 24‑hour swimming marathon in the Hockermühlbad attracted 2,081 participants who together covered 3,257.8 km. The event generated a symbolic €5,000 donation for the Amberg‑Sulzbach hospice, which Mayor Michael Fritz presented to hospice chairman Georg Fröhler.

Top performers included Rouven Oeckl (42.1 km) and Maja Fleischmann (31 km). The youngest swimmers, five‑year‑olds Helene Fuchs and Linus Lindenthal, each completed 100 m, while nonagenarians Brigitte Sänger (90) and Peter Bulla (89) swam 400 m and 1,000 m respectively. About 150 volunteers from the DLRG, THW and water‑rescue groups ensured smooth operation. Sponsors such as the city construction office, Klinikum St. Marien and local businesses supported the event. The CIS Amberg club was named the strongest club, and the Max‑Josef‑Grundschule was recognized as the leading school.
